Who is Returning to the Show? Certainly Not Cas Anvar

The Expanse Season 6 cast is part of what makes the show so incredible. Wes Chatham, Dominique Tipper, Steven Strait, and Frankie Adams, among others, are the fabric of the show. However, the cast is undergoing some changes, primarily when it comes to the crew of the Rocinante. While most of the Rocinante crew remains the same, showrunners dropped Cas Anvar entirely following accusations of sexual misconduct. It also remains unclear whether or not his temporary replacement, Bull, will be making an appearance on the show.

‘The Expanse’ Season 6 cast: Who is returning?

The Expanse Season 6 is slated for its Amazon Prime Video debut on December 10, 2021. Although Cas Anvar will not be reprising the role of Alex Kamal in The Expanse Season 6, the rest of the Rocinante crew remains unchanged, as do the show’s other core actors.

The Expanse Season 6 will star Steven Strait as James Holden, Dominique Tipper as Naomi Nagata, Wes Chatham as Amos Burton, Shohreh Aghdashloo as Chrisjen Avasarala, Cara Gee as Camina Drummer, Frankie Adams as Bobbie Draper, Keon Alexander as Marco Inaros, Nadine Nicole as Clarissa Mao, and Jasai Chase Owens as Filip Inaros.

It’s currently unclear whether or not Bull, played by José Zúñiga, will be returning to the Rocinante. Bull took over the role of pilot during Alex Kamal’s departure to save Naomi Nagata.

The Expanse Season 6 trailer did not seem to feature Bull. Whether or not the Rocinante will have a new pilot at all, or if one of the pre-existing crew will attempt to take over that role, remains to be seen.

‘The Expanse’ star Cas Anvar was dropped

The Expanse Season 5 ending saw Cas Anvar’s character, Alex Kamal, killed off while saving Naomi Nagata. The Expanse Season 6 will not feature Cas Anvar reprising his role.

In 2020, various individuals came out with accusations of sexual misconduct against Cas Anvar. Notably, Anvar stood accused by several fans and convention-goers of sexually inappropriate behavior, as well as retaliatory behavior against those who called him out.

The Expanse writers Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck were quick to take to the James S.A. Corey Twitter account to jointly announce that they were grateful for those who came forward and were investigating the claims.

“Latest news from our studio. They are taking the recent allegations very seriously, and have hired an independent third-party investigator. Everyone is fully committed to the truth here. But they need a little time to do their work. Updates as I have them,” the duo tweeted under their pen name.

Alcor launched an independent investigation into the accusations, which Cas Anvar said he’d cooperate with. Per Mary Sue, at least 30 women came forward, one of whom was underage at the time of her described incident with Cas Anvar.

“I welcome the independent investigation, respect that the women who have come forward should be heard, and will make myself fully available to participate in the process as appropriate so that I may refute these very serious claims that strike at the core of what I value,” Anvar wrote at the time.

‘The Expanse’ Season 5 killed off Alex Kamal

The Expanse eventually decided to write out Cas Anvar. The showrunners have not explained explicitly whether or not this was due to the allegations against the actor. Newsweek reported that the accusations against Anvar came out after filming had wrapped. Showrunner Naren Shankar has not stated whether Alex Kamal’s death was filmed and added to Season 5 after the allegations came to light.

Regardless, The Expanse Season 5 saw Alex Kamal killed off after experiencing a stroke during a dangerous maneuver aimed at rescuing Naomi Nagata from the depths of space. His death was a relatively brief scene, and the Rocinante crew addressed it only in passing. It seemed as if The Expanse cast and crew were showing Anvar exactly how they felt about the situation.
